Foodie.

We introduced Mason to food at 6 months (okay, a few days before that) and it has been so much fun for all of us.  After much research, surprise, surprise, we chose the path of baby led weaning.  In the past four weeks he's had a good variety of grub to chomp on.
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Chicken
  • Beef Roast
  • Asparagus
  • Cucumber
  • Pork Burger
  • Cheese - Mozzarella & Colby Jack
  • Watermelon
  • Cherries
  • Strawberries
  • Apples
  • Lemon
  • Banana
  • Summer Squash
  • Clementine
  • Cantaloupe
  • Guacamole
  • Green Pepper
  • Garlic/Chili Powder Baked Fries
  • Pineapple
  • Tomato
  • Sausage
  • Ham
  • Orange
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Mashed Potatoes with Onion Powder
  • Red Pepper
So far he seems to enjoy everything when in the mood to eat.  It has been amazing seeing how coordinated he's become with his food over the past weeks.  He's definitely learning a lot!  Mason has also become very skilled with the sippy cup.  He gets water with every meal.  His favorite foods are cucumber and strawberries right now.  It gets messy at times (most of the time), but it is worth it.

Say Cheese.

Insect Overload.

I used to love bugs. I was the kid on the playground that used to pluck locust shells off of the tree, stick it to my nose, and chase around the other girls. That's normal, right?
My love for creepy crawlies has faded overtime to the point where I flat out despise most of them. My time spent at our new house so far has been far from insect-free. In fact, as I look around me, I see a spider where the wall meets the ceiling and flies annoyingly buzzing in three different windows. I've killed 27 flies in the past 5 hours and they keep reappearing from who knows where.
A few nights ago I opened the door to let the dogs in and one of my worst enemies flew in. The June Bug. Cute name, disgusting in every other way. Actually, three flew in. I ran away from them flailing my arms all over the place making sure they did not land on me. When I heard them stop buzzing around, I grabbed the fly swatter and things got messy from there.

The murder scene (Warning, gross bug picture, scroll really fast if you don't want to see it):

I had to clean this up.. and I didn't have any paper towels in the house.  But, I lived through it.

There was another unfortunate instance that made me abandon my bedroom all together.  I was laying in bed (just Mason and I, my husband was still in Minnesota) and I felt something in my hair.  Before I could feel what it was, it started crawling on my forehead.  It was a spider.  CRAWLING ON MY FACE.  This wasn't a little spider, or an innocent daddy long legs.  This was a good sized, hairy creature.  I quickly brushed it off and it sat on my pillow.  Our eyes were locked.  I looked around for something to kill it using my peripheral vision (I couldn't look away or it would bolt!).
Mason was laying on a flat cloth diaper, so I pulled it out from under him and positioned it into my had so I could grab the sucker.  I made my move.  I missed.  It darted behind the bed.  I sat there, hugging my pillow and rocking back and forth not knowing what I should do next.
I couldn't lay back down.  Maybe if it was a small spider, but it wasn't.  It looked like this:

You try sleeping after this crawls across your face!

So, I ended up moving upstairs to a different bedroom and haven't returned yet, even though I did spray the room that night.  Maybe if I spray it 7 more times.  Or see the spider dead, I'll think about reclaiming my old bed.
I prefer having bugs in my house to living with mold.  But, I certainly wouldn't mind if they all moved out and let me live in peace.

Goodbye Great Grandpa.

This week Mason lost his only great grandpa on Tyler's side.
Keith had been struggling to find happiness for the last four years or so since the love of his life passed away. It is always hard to lose someone you love, but losing someone who is your life is especially tough. He missed her every day and has now been reunited with her in Heaven. Mason got to meet his great grandpa over Easter. We are so glad we made this trip.

A couple weeks later, he had a bad fall. This led to surgery which led to internal bleeding and pneumonia, which all led to the loss of his life on Earth and the beginning of his life with next to the Lord.

4 generation shot.

Whenever someone loses a parent (in this case, Tyler's mom), it makes me think of what it will be like when I lose mine. They are amazing people and I know they will be going to Heaven and eventually I will join them again, but it still brings a tear to my eyes. I know I will feel alone without them.
I just have to remember to soak up as much time as I can when with family. A family time sponge. There isn't anything worth more in my opinion.

This weekend we will be honoring this father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We will be spending quality time with the ones we love. Crying, laughing, hugging, and sharing.

6 Months.

Dear Mason,

Oh how cute you are! I thought you were the most beautiful creature way back at the beginning of your life, but holy smokes, you are so stinkin' cute now!

At your six month check-up you weighed 18 1/2 pounds and were 25 1/4 inches long. What a growth spurt in the height area! You are in the 25th percentile for height, 50th for weight, and 75th for head circumference. So.. I guess you are disproportionate. But, have I mentioned cute?
You're quite the bouncer in the Johnny Jump Up. Your dad and I will say "boing, boing, boing", and you smile and jump away.

You have not started crawling, which is okay. I'm not counting on it happening anytime soon since you still are really not liking tummy time. You've found another way of getting around, scooting on your bottom. You can only accomplish this on soft surfaces and haven't figured out how to do it on carpet. It is the funniest thing ever to watch.

Nope, not even with Grandpa's help.

Whenever laying down, you automatically grab your toes. They are always connected.

We love trying to get you to laugh. Your dad will do this silly laugh which makes you laugh and you guys just go back and forth in this big laughing fit, which makes me laugh.

You are also blowing raspberries like crazy. It is probably your new favorite thing to do.

You've shown a lot of interest in food and we decided you are ready to start figuring out this whole eating thing.

You still enjoy all your toys, but are always up for something new. New is exciting.

You love to eat this book at The Grandma and The Grandpa's.

I will often set you like this. And you end up like this.

Which makes you mad after a minute or two.

You love animals. You love to watch them and touch them. Usually they don't enjoy it as much as you do.

You love your Daddy. Whenever he gets home from school, you light up.

You are also really enjoying being outside. Now that the weather is a lot more mild, we spend more time outdoors and you love to listen to the birds and soak it all in.

You bring so much joy into our lives. We are so blessed to have you.

Try not to get too much cuter or I might do something crazy.. like turn you into a child actor.

Okay?

Love you.
